In February 2010, George Aguer Deng returned to South Sudan and hosted a general meeting, in Aweil, Northern Bahr el-Ghazal State with local chiefs, widows, guardians and war-orphaned children at Marial-baai on 8 May 2010 to discuss their needs and concerns. The current situation is appalling there are no proper schools or health centres operating. Necessities such as access to clean water and food are severely limited.

The reason for the meeting:
Q: "I would like to know from both chiefs and caretakers, to tell me where these children sleep and
who are responsible for them?"

A: "No one is responsible for them."
We hope for Carelinks South Sudan to be responsible for these children.

It is impossible to get accurate figures of the number of orphans in South Sudan. Both orphans and street children are everywhere on the street. They are rummaging through rubbish for food to eat. Due to the over-population in South Sudan, starvation is rampant, and the children are the ones who suffer the most. Carelinks South Sudan is committed and determined to help these orphaned children success in lives and becoming productive citizens in their communities.
